It was the UCLA Sailing Club that began Captain Bob’s love affair with the ocean. He joined the club shortly after beginning college in 1967.
In 1971 he bought his first boat, a 17 foot wooden sloop named See Rauber. The first order of business was to make her sea worthy. As soon as See Rauber would float Bob (he wasn’t known as ‘Captain’ yet) started giving sailing lessons out of Marina Del Rey. The demands of a young family saw See Rauber languishing in a driveway and eventually sold off.
Bob met the owner of Quality Time when he started at a new job and they quickly bonded over their mutual love of the sea. When Quality Time’s owner was reassigned to work in Japan, he left Quality Time in Bob’s care. And the Captain came to be.
